Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start training my puppy?

Early socialisation is a must for all puppies. It is essential in helping them to develop into well adjusted and happy adult dogs that are a joy to own. When we start introducing young puppies to the sights, smells and sounds of everyday life they will develop coping meganisms that will help them to deal with new situations when they are older. One additional benefit is that young puppies soak up new experiences and as a result they will actually be learning how to learn new behaviours. Once your puppy reaches the age of 16 weeks she will be entering a so called "fear period" that will make it much harder to introduce new experiences and objects. Therefore the best time to start your puppies education is as soon as they have finished their vaccinations and before they are 16 weeks old.

Why do you limit your classes to a maximum of 6 puppies?

It is important that you and your new puppy get as much out of your puppy course as possible and limiting the number of puppies attending to six means that I will be able to assist you when you need it. Having 6 puppies in the class is also ideal as it is easier to manage the class, ensuring that the whole experience is a positive one for all.

What are your qualifications?

As well as having 14 years of practical experience teaching puppy classes and having attended several Dog Training Workshops and one day instructors courses, I have completed the following COAPE (Centre of Applied Pet Ethology) courses:

  • COAPE Advance Diploma in the Practical Aspects of Companion Animal Behaviour and Training.
  • Think Dog! Intermediate Award in Dog Behaviour and Training
  • Think Dog! Practical Training Award
  • Puppy Instructors Certificate

These courses are accredited by the OCN. Copies of the Certificates are available for you to view at class.
